Do I have
to set my preferences every time I visit your forums?
A profile is file that you
create about yourself, accessible to anybody that reads your messages/ads. You may change
this file as often as you like. When you post a message,
the reader can click on your name and read a little about yourself. When
you create your profile, you will have to provide a password. Your
password will be encrypted and stored in this file. If someone attempts to
post a message on any Petbugs.com forum using your name, that
person will be
asked for your password in order to proceed.
-
If you're running a business,
having a profile is a nice way to introduce yourself to potential
customers, by telling a little about yourself and/or your business. If
you have a website and a picture of yourself, or anything you would like to
show to your new customer, you may include the image URL to your
profile. Also, if your business is included in the resources section of
this site, it is possible for your customer to rate your business
directly from your profile. (some html knowledge is helpful
here)
Some HTML Help.
How to include a link to our
rating system in your profile.
-
Find your website in the
resources. Under the name of your website, there is a link
called "Rate It". Right-click on that link, and select "Copy Link
Location" from Netscape, or "Copy Shortcut" from Internet
Explorer.
-
In your profile, type <a href=".
Then, paste the URL address from the previous step directly after the
quotation. At this
point, it's going to look like: <a href="http://www.petbugs.com/resource/bin/rate.cgi?ID=7
Next,
add "> after the URL address. Now, type Rate
It!, Click here to rate my site.,
etc. Lastly, type
</a>
and you're finished. The completed HTML code should look like this. Of
course, the URL address will have a different ID # at the end. See
Step #3 for more info on ID numbers.
<a href="http://www.petbugs.com/resource/bin/rate.cgi?ID=7">Rate
It!</a>
-
The ID number for the Classifieds is 7. (the example above is the
Classifieds) If you use the copy and paste command (Steps #1 and #2) the ID
number will be the one that is assigned to your
website.
-
You will have to type the
HTML as above every time you change your profile. If you are planning
to change your profile often, will be a good idea to keep your HTML
code in a notepad file so you copy and paste from that file.
There is no message/ad with
your name displaying in your browser. "View User Profiles" will
only show the profiles of the users that have at least one message
displaying on the forum.
No. If you have a
profile, use the same name and password to post messages on
other forums.
Sorry, you can't. Although,
you can delete your entire message/ad and post it again.
You must have a profile in
order to be able to delete your message. All messages you post are
password protected. First, click "Set Preferences" to enter
the Message Index Display Configuration page. From
"listing style", choose the "Threaded" or
"Chronological" style and click the "View Message
Index" button. Find your message and click on it. Under your message
you will see the "Delete This Message" button. Enter your
password and click on that button.
Yes. If you have a profile,
click on "Edit Your Profile". There is an option available to change
your password.
Yes, if you do not have
a profile.
No, if you have a profile.
With a profile, nobody will be able to post a message without your password. However,
if you use a public computer, it is possible that someone else will
post using your name. If you do not have your own computer, it is not recommended
to create a profile.
The image you posted in your
last message or your profile, is remembered by your browser to be used in
the new message. You must clear or change the image URL for
the new message.
You must delete your message/ad, and
post it again.
No, it's free. However, if you
post "for sale" ads, which help your business, you should consider
purchasing some advertising
from this website.
There is a restriction on the
size of the ads that are posted. The Petbugs.com Classifieds has a similar
ad display to that of a newspaper. On a single page, you may read many ads. If the the size of the
ads are large, then the overall loading time increases. Therefore, in order to accommodate
the majority of the Internet users with slower dial-up connections, we had
to restrict the ad size.
-
Your message/ad does not
belong in this forum.
-
Your message/ad contained
an image larger than the maximum image size and/or dimensions.
-
Your message/ad is not
proper for the Petbugs.com audience.
Probably because you have been naughty,
not realizing that there are no secrets on the Internet.
You're one of the most
frequent posters. Here is a reflection on that:
-
If you are posting
"for sale" ads on the Classifieds, your business is benefiting from
Petbugs.com. Since we all depend on each other, if you do not advertise
on
this site, you should look into it.
-
If you are posting announcements,
help responses, etc., you are a great resource to the hobby. Thanks
for your help.
Set the preferences to display
less messages. Click on "Set Preferences", and choose a
shorter message lifespan.
No, if cookies are
accepted on your browser. With cookies enabled, your browser will
remember the last listing style you have chosen.
Yes, if cookies are disabled
in your browser. To enable cookies from Netscape, click on
"Edit", then go into "Preferences", click on
"Advanced", and finally choose "Accept all cookies" or
"Accept only cookies that get sent back to the originating
server". If you're using Internet Explorer, most likely cookies are
enabled in your browser.
